Northern enclosure of Edo Castle had Tayasu family’s mansions and Shimizu family’s mansions. Nowadays it is maintained as a forest park after the Second World War and was opened as Kita-no-maru Park from April 1969. It is famous for Japan martial arts stadium, called The Nippon Budokan, and cherry blossom viewing spots in spring.

 It used to be Tayasu family’s mansions inside of the gate. Tayasu-Tokugawa family usually says Tayasu family. It was one of the three lords called Go-san-kyo and was a branch of the Tokugawa shogun family. Its ancestor was Munetake (1715 - 1771), the second son of the eighth shogun Yoshimune (1684 - 1751). It was believed that he was given a mansion inside of the gate and started living there from 1731.
 It was possible to supply successors from the family if the shogun passed away without succession and the rank was next to The Three Successor Houses (Owari, Kii, and Mito).

 It used to be Shimizu family’s mansions inside of the gate.The Shimizu-Tokugawa family is commonly known as Shimizu family. The Shimizu family, one of the three lords called Gosankyo, was a branch of the Tokugawa shogun family. Its ancestor was Shigeyoshi (1745-1795) who the grandson of the eighth shogun Yoshimune (1684 - 1751), the second son of the ninth shogun Ieshige (1711-1761) and yonger brother of the tenth shogun Ieharu(1737-1786) too. It was believed that he was given a mansion inside of Shimizu-mon gate and started living there from 1758.
