Babasaki Gate of Edo Castle
Babasaki Gate (called Babasaki-mon) of Edo Castle was between Chiyoda line Nijū-bashi-mae station and Mita line Hibiya station. This gate was built in 1629. At that time, there was only a wooden bridge, but a very wide road is between Babasaki moat and Hibiya moat now. In order, from the outside of the castle, there is the second gate (called Kōrai-mon), a square, and turreted passageway (called Watari-Yagura-mon), they used to be surrounded by the stone wall.
There is a similar stone wall at the gate remains now, but it has probably been relocated to build the wide road. Perhaps, they may have used the stone when they built the road. Therefore, it is difficult to see that this place used to be a gate.
Turn left after passing through the gate, there is a Samurai statue. His name is Kusunoki Masashige. Many sightseeing buses stop here every day and it is a lively place. The gate was in this area.
