Stone bridge of Sensō-ji Temple

There is a small old stone bridge in Sensō-ji temple. The temple is located in Taitō City (Ward) in Tōkyō. I sometimes go to Asakusa to see Sensō-ji temple. When I went to the temple in August 2020, there were a few people. So I noticed that there were various things other than the large gates and the main hall.

The stone bridge is supposed to be the oldest existing stone bridge in Tōkyō. In 1618, when Tōshōgū shrine was built in Sensō-ji temple (the shrine has not survived), it was built as a Shinto bridge for pilgrimage. The Donor was Asano Nagaakira, the head of the Wakayama domain in Kii province (current Wakayama prefecture).

Today, we can view the stone bridge but can not cross it. There was a cascade and a pond (it may be a river) and water was flowing under the stone bridge. There were some carps in the pond. When I looked into the pond, the carps were gathered near the edge. They were moving their mouths. It looks that they wanted to eat some food, but it was prohibited to give food to the carps.
