TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests

In February 2021, I took The TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests at Yushima in Tōkyō. It was my first TOEIC. When I arrived at the test center with a big beautiful building, there were no people in front of it or in the lobby. I went to the twelfth floor where the test center was, but all the doors were closed, so I went to the bathroom. When I got out of the bathroom, all the doors of the test center had opened. But there were no candidates than me. I seem to have arrived first.

The test started in order from the person who came. The Speaking Test had 11 questions, and the test time was about 20 minutes. The Writing Test had 8 questions, and the test time was about 60 minutes. I wore a headset, and started answering from the Speaking Test. I was a little ashamed to speak, because the other candidates could hear my voice, but this was OK for me. However, I could hear voices of the other candidates, this was not OK. This time, I arrived at the test center first, so I started the test first. If I started the test second or third, I could have the answer from the other candidates who answered earlier. I thought that this is a terrible problem.

The first two questions were just reading English. I thought that it was OK. The third question was describing a picture. I answered the question, but I could not think that it is good. It was too difficult for me after the fourth question, so I was almost silent. About the Writing Test, the first five questions were writing a sentence based on a picture. I could answer them, and I thought that they were OK. The sixth and the seventh were responding to a written request. They were too difficult for me, because I rarely read or write e-mails. So I remember writing something by guessing. The last was writing an opinion essay. I was always writing English articles, so I was thinking that I can write an essay. But it was too difficult for me, and I could not understand some words. Usually, when I write English, I use some dictionaries. But I could not use them in the test. It was bad.

At the time of writing this article, I already have the test results. The Speaking Test was 10 points out of 200 points, and my proficiency level was 1 out of 8. In addition, my pronunciation level was LOW (the lowest in 3 stages), and my intonation and stress level was LOW (the lowest in 3 stages). It seems that the questions of just reading English were bad, because they were not like English. The Writing test was 70 points out of 200points, and my proficiency level was 4 out of 9. It was not good, but it was not bad either. I was always writing English article, therefore it may have been possible to get a decent score other than Speaking Test.
