Tyūjaku-mon gate in the former Edo Castle
There was a Tyūjyaku-mon gate in the former Edo castle. It was important because there was the Hon-maru(first compound) at the end of this gate. There were two-tiered Yaguras (guard towers) at Shoin (writing houses) and Jūbako (tiered boxes) Yagura. It was a great building in those days, but it doesn’t exist anymore. It was burned by the Great fire in 1863 (Meireki 3), and the stone walls were burned and rounded.A cornerstone of the gate still remains.
