Former Edo Castle Hanzo-mon Gate

The current Hanzo-mon Gate is used as one of the entrances to the Imperial Palace. Therefore, the general public cannot pass through it. There is something like a fence around the entrance of the earthen bridge, so it is not possible to see it from very close.
It is said that the first gate (a gate with guard tower) was removed in 1871 (Meiji 4). Looking at an old photograph taken in the same year, it can be seen that there is the first gate to the right after passing through the second gate (an one-story gate). Upon closer inspection, it appears that the walls are gone and the framework is exposed, indicating that it may have been in the process of being dismantled.
The second gate still exists today, so it can be seen from a distance. It is unclear whether this gate is from the Edo period or not. There are various theories, such as it being relocated from the Fukiage-mon Gate or originally belonging to the Wadakura-mon Gate.

Chidori-ga-fuchi Park

The long, narrow erea bordering the Hanzo Moat is now developed as Chidori-ga-fuchi Park. It is a regular park with playground equipment and restrooms, but in spring, it becomes incredibly beautiful with numerous cherry blossoms in bloom.
